Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 21 (ANI): Reacting to the LoP Rahul Gandhi’s statement in Boston, BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh slammed the Congress Party on Monday by pointing out two historical events involving Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi in 1971 and 1991.
Speaking to ANI, Singh said, “… I would like to give two examples from history, one of his grandmother and the other of his father… When Rajiv Gandhi was contesting elections in 1991, he tragically died… The Election Commission halted the entire process instead of holding elections as per law… This is called compromising… In 1971, the Election Commission remained silent on Indira Gandhi’s use of government machinery and officials. His family has shown how the Election Commission is actually compromised…”
Drawing parallels with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he alleged that, “His grandmother murdered democracy, imposed the Emergency. He murdered democracy by defaming India on foreign soil… He is repeating his grandmother’s mistakes…”
Furthermore, on Samajwadi Party Chief and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav’s statement on Murshidabad violence, he accused Yadav of appeasement and called him anti-Hindu.
He said, “It is unfortunate that he is so immersed in appeasement that he is seeing the involvement of the BJP in the riots and is silent while the Hindus in Murshidabad are being tortured. To what extent can he be anti-Hindu? In 2026, ‘Bhaag Mamata Bhaag’ will be fulfilled and he won’t be able to prevent it…”
Violence erupted on April 11 in Murshidabad, a Muslim-majority district, during a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The protest turned violent, resulting in two deaths, several injuries, and property damage. Thousands of people fled their homes in search of safety.
The protest later spread to other districts, including Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly, where incidents of arson, stone-pelting, and road blockades were reported.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Kumar Nishad attacked Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the Election Commission in Boston.
Speaking to ANI, Nishad said, “…There is a saying in Ramayan, one sees what he thinks…All these parties have been in politics for the past 70 years, misusing their powers…and at that time, they received protection from these agencies. Today they are getting punished in our regime…”
He further stated, “EC is an independent body, and raising fingers at it is not right…”
Earlier, BJP leader CR Kesavan also attacked Rahul Gandhi, saying he has embarked on yet another “Bharat Badnaam Yatra”. Furthermore, BJP leader Sambit Patra also attacked Rahul Gandhi, saying that the Congress party is creating an atmosphere of unrest throughout the country.
“This is Rahul Gandhi’s old habit of insulting the country on foreign soil… He has been doing this for a long time… ED has mentioned the names of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in its chargesheet, and they could even go to jail for looting the country… Meanwhile, the Congress party is creating an atmosphere of unrest in the entire country… Those who are out on bail of Rs 50,000, if they feel they can destroy the image of this great democracy by going abroad and speaking their then they are totally on the wrong side of the line,” Patra said.
BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill mocked Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the EC in Boston and said that he suffered from the “Entitled Child Syndrome” (ECS), further stating that he insulted the nation and blamed the Indian democracy for the sake of covering his failures, which was also his addiction.
Shergill also questioned why the Congress leader did not speak on the role of the EC in the states where Congress won.
The remarks by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were made during his address to the Indian diaspora in Boston.
Gandhi had alleged that the Election Commission (EC) in India was “compromised,” further stating that there was something fundamentally wrong with the system.
Citing the example of the Maharashtra elections, the Senior Congress leader stated that there was an addition of 65 lakh voters to the voter list in two hours, which was impossible.
“More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact… the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible…” he claimed, addressing the meeting.
