Fazilka (Punjab) [India], November 14 (ANI): As the air quality continues to deteriorate in Northern India, Dr Sahab Ram, Pediatrician, said that it is a “Serious issue” that is affecting the school-going students as there has been an increase in the cases of cold and cough.
Speaking to ANI, Dr Ram said that due to a rise in pollution, asthmatic children are suffering acute asthma attacks.
“It is a serious issue. There has been an increase in the issues faced by the school-going students. As the weather is changing, there has been a rise in the cases of cold and cough. Asthmatic children are suffering acute asthma attacks. It is due to the rise in pollution,” he said.
“Smoke and dust are harmful for our health and their quantity has increased so much that it is causing a lot of harm,” he added.
Further, Dr Sahab Ram asserted that the government should think and the people should pay attention on this.
“We have to pay attention to this and the government should also think about this because in matters of health, prevention is better. More attention should be paid to actions that reduce pollution. Masks should be made compulsory for children less than 12 years of age. Those who have allergy problems should stay at home as much as possible,” he said.
Similar to other days, a layer of smog was seen around Delhi as pollution levels continue to rise.
The AQI at AIIMS, Delhi has been recorded at 438 categorised as ‘severe’ and at Anand Vihar at 473, according to the CPCB.
Speaking to ANI, a resident of Delhi said that the pollution is causing a lot of problems.
“The pollution is causing a lot of problems. I think that the reason is the increasing no. of vehicles,” said Raunak, a resident who went out for a morning walk. (ANI)
