Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], December 5 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishwas Sarang on Thursday criticised Congress MLA Arif Masood over his recent remarks on Shariat, stating that disruptive individuals like Masood forget that the country is governed by the Constitution, not Shariat.
Speaking to ANI, Minister Sarang said, “Disruptive people like Arif Masood forget that this country will be governed by the Constitution, not Shariat. If he (Masood) talks so much about Shariat, will he accept all its tenets? According to Shariat, activities such as putting up photos and playing music are forbidden. It also prescribes that the hands of thieves should be cut off. He is engaging in politics by disregarding these principles.”
Sarang further warned that Masood’s approach to politics could lead to consequences. “If he continues with rebellious or destructive politics, he will be dealt with accordingly. Such statements will not be tolerated in Madhya Pradesh,” he said.
He added, “If he is so devoted to Shariat, he should live in a place governed by Shariat law. This country is governed by the Constitution, and only those who respect the Constitution of India will remain here.”
A purported video of Arif Masood recently went viral on social media, shared by BJP leader Narendra Saluja on his X handle. In the video, Masood can be heard addressing a gathering and advocating for Shariat.
The Congress MLA reportedly said, “As soon as it was announced that NRC would be implemented in India, there was a Congress government in Madhya Pradesh at the time. I immediately announced that if the then CM Kamal Nath implemented NRC in MP, I would no longer be a member of the party. I urge everyone to wake up and take a stand to protect Shariat. Show your sincerity.”
Meanwhile, Minister Sarang also reacted to Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, being stopped from visiting Sambhal. He criticised Gandhi for engaging in what he termed “political theatrics” by visiting sensitive areas.
“It is a habit of Congress leaders to make divisive statements and engage in politics of disharmony and destruction. If Rahul Gandhi talks so much about the Constitution, will he explain under which Constitution his grandmother imposed the Emergency? Under which Constitution is the Congress party committing corruption, and how is his brother-in-law grabbing farmers’ land?” Sarang questioned.
He further accused Congress of exploiting and disrespecting the Constitution. “Rahul Gandhi and his party have always insulted the Constitution. Visiting a violence-hit area for political gain and aggravating wounds is not acceptable,” he added.
Notably, Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders, was stopped by police at the Ghazipur border on Wednesday while attempting to visit violence-hit Sambhal.
The violence in Sambhal erupted on November 24 during an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) examination of a Mughal-era mosque. The incident resulted in four fatalities and multiple injuries among police personnel and locals. (ANI)
