Virudunagar (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 3 (ANI): Indian National Congress Member of Parliament from Virudunagar Parliamentary Constituency, Manickam Tagore has written letter to the Prime Minister of India regarding the omission of OBC reservation in the latest ICAR recruitment notification.
In a tweet on X, he said a total of 114 posts of Personal Assistants have been advertised but not a single seat is reserved for OBCs.
“A total of 114 posts of Personal Assistants have been advertised, but not a single seat is reserved for OBCs. As per law, OBCs are entitled to 27% reservation in all direct recruitment posts under the Central Govt. & its autonomous bodies. ICAR, under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, is bound by constitutional provisions–yet it has ignored them. This is not a minor error–it is a violation of the Constitution, Govt. norms, and the rights of OBC communities. ICAR cannot function as if it is above the law,” he posted on X.
In his letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he urged to take this matter seriously and ensure that Constitutional provisions for reservations are strictly followed by all government departments and autonomous bodies. Failing which he said the Congress would raise this issue in Parliament and before appropriate constitutional and legal forums.
Earlier, Tagore wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking clarification regarding the “significant shortfall in the allocation of posts reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the ongoing Delhi Police recruitment process.
In the letter, he pointed out that, as per the Government of India’s reservation policy, 27% of posts must be reserved for OBC candidates.
“I am writing on behalf of OBC youth regarding the significant shortfall in the allocation of posts reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the ongoing Delhi Police recruitment process. As per the official advertisement released for the Delhi Police Constable (Executive) recruitment, the total number of posts notified is 7,565,” the Congress MP wrote.
“According to the Government of India reservation policy and the notification from the Government of NCT of Delhi, 27% of these posts should have been reserved for OBC candidates. Mathematically, 27% of 7,565 amounts to 2,043 posts. However, the recruitment notification has allocated only 1,608 posts for OBCs, leaving a deficit of 435 posts,” he added.
Tagore said that this was in direct contradiction to both the constitutional mandate and the reservation policy in force for Delhi, as outlined in the Backward Classes Certificate notification. (ANI)
