Kolkata (West Bengal) [India] August 28 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson C R Keshavan on Wednesday described the violence following the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ rally as “vicious, vindictive and inhumane.”
He further called for a “12-hour bandh” in West Bengal and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
“Brutual mayhem unleashed by Mamata government is vicious and vindictive and inhumane. The ruthless TMC government, yesterday, attempted to cold-bloodily crush and choke our youth students who are crusading for justice.” C R Keshavan said.
“The visuals that came up of police brutality against students are horrifying. We saw their police unleash water cannons, fire tear gas and use hockey sticks to beat students in Railway Station. The women and senior citizens were not even spared and manhandled by police.” Keshavan further added.
Keshavan’s comments come after the Nabnna Abhijan Rally, organised to protest against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical Hospital and College, turned violent as police and protestors clashed. Police resorted to the lathi charge and, of water cannons and tear gas against the protestors.
BJP spokesperson C R Keshavan showed his support and said that the students were “within their rights” to protest.
“The students are well within their right to protest against the government. Even the Supreme Court has said that the government should not disturb or disrupt any peaceful protest but what better can you expect from this Mamata Banerjee government,” C R Keshavan said.
CR Keshavan further showed his suspicion over the relation of the rape and murder accused with Kolkata police.
“The role of the Kolkata police and the CM has been very suspicious, we know that. Sanjay Roy is a civic volunteer and a member of the Kolkata police force. We know he has been living on the premises of the fourth battalion of the Kolkata police. His bike is registered in the name of the Kolkata police.” C R Keshavan said.
CR Keshavan called for a “12-hour band” and demanded the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata police commissioner.
BJP has calleded for a 12-hour band today, protesting against the atrocities committed against the agitators. There is a tidal wave of justice rising in West Bengal. I think West Bengal CM and Police commissioner should immediately resign, not just because of the moral responsibility but because of the complete breakdown of the law and order as decided by Supreme Court and High Court.” C R Keshavan said.
“People do not believe, they do not have confidence in CM. As long as she is the CM, justice will not be done and that’s why Mamata Banerjee and the police commissioner need to resign immediately.” C R Keshavan further added. (ANI)
