Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], September 2 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Jharkhand state government over the alleged deaths of several candidates during a police recruitment physical efficiency test.
CM Sarma called for a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) investigation and compensation for the victims’ families, while also suggesting changes to the scheduling and conditions of the tests.
Speaking at a press conference in Jharkhand’s Ranchi on Monday, CM Sarma condemned the incident and expressed grave concerns over the conduct of the physical efficiency tests in the state.
“Many candidates have lost their lives during the physical tests of the police recruitment drive. In our country, never before have so many people died during a recruitment process. BJP condemns this incident. The state government is responsible for these deaths. We will file an application in the National Human Rights Commission demanding an enquiry into the incident. Compensation of at least Rs 50 lakh should be given to the families of the bereaved,” CM Sarma said.
CM Sarma alleged that the exams are happening at the wrong time and added he has appealed to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to reschedule the tests.
“They should be held after September. It is very hot right now. The children come but they don’t get anything to eat in the morning. 15 youths have died till now. I requested CM Hemant Soren today that the exam should be held after Sept 15 all candidates should be given milk and fruits and they should be allowed to run after a medical test,” CM Sarma said.
