New Delhi [India], January 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Parvesh Verma dismissed the allegations made by Aam Aadmi Party regarding its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal being attacked during a public meeting and accused the former Delhi Chief Minister of “fabricating” a “false threat” to divert attention from his “failures.”
Verma is in a triangular contest with former CM Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit from the New Delhi assembly constituency for the Delhi assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters, Verma said, “It is now clear that Kejriwal is playing games with the public. Delhi Police provides full security, so why does he need extra protection from Punjab? This is nothing but a political stunt ahead of the elections.”
“Kejriwal is creating a false ‘security threat’ to divert attention from his growing failures. He is scripting this drama so that later he can claim, ‘I was attacked,’ and the election theatrics will begin!” he added.
On Thursday, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal alleged that some people of the opposition candidate entered his public meeting in Hari Nagar and attacked his car after Punjab Police withdrew additional security given to him.
Attacking Kejriwal further, Verma accused him of trying to “cover-up” his increasing unpopularity and said it is nothing more than a desperate political manoeuvre.
“Kejriwal is trying to cover up his increasing unpopularity and failures by raising a non-issue about security. His move is a strategic distraction, aimed at diverting the public’s attention from real issues. Soon, we will see posters saying ‘Why was I attacked?’ – this is nothing more than a desperate political manoeuvre,” Verma further added.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, and the counting of votes is set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seats. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections by winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, out of a total of 70 seats, while the BJP got only three and eight seats in these elections.
