New Delhi [India], December 27 (ANI): Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday, Chief Minister MK Stalin said Singh’s intellect and leadership steered India’s economic transformation.
Conveying his ‘deepest’ condolences to his family, friends, and Congress party, the CM said in a post, “Deeply saddened by the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a statesman whose intellect and leadership steered India’s economic transformation. His tenure marked an era of steady growth, social progress, and reforms that improved the lives of millions.”
CM Stalin also recalled that Manmohan Singh’s partnership with former Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi was instrumental in advancing the state’s development.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh’s partnership with Thalaivar Kalaignar was instrumental in advancing Tamil Nadu’s development. Their mutual respect and collaboration brought vital projects and strengthened the state’s progress across various sectors. Dr. Manmohan Singh valued Tamil Nadu’s aspirations, ensuring that the voices of the South resonated in national policies,” he added.
The Tamil Nadu CM said that Manmohan Singh and Kalaignar stood together during turbulent times.
“Even during turbulent times, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Thalaivar Kalaignar stood together, exemplifying the strength of coalition politics built on trust and respect for regional identities. His calm, thoughtful leadership reflected a rare quality–a leader who spoke less but achieved more, driven by action rather than rhetoric,” he said in his post.
He further called the former prime minister a friend of the state, saying that his vast knowledge and stature left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
“To the people of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Manmohan Singh was not only a prime minister but a friend of the state. His ability to understand and address our needs helped strengthen Tamil Nadu’s role in India’s growth story. His modesty, despite his vast knowledge and stature, left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him,” Stalin stated.
“On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu and the DMK, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire @INCIndia party. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s legacy of wisdom, humility, and service will continue to guide and inspire future generations,” he added.
Meanwhile, CM Stalin leaves for Delhi to pay tribute to former PM Manmohan Singh who passed away last night at Delhi.
Singh passed away on Thursday evening at the age of 92. He served as India’s prime minister from 2004 to 2014 and is remembered for his pivotal role in shaping the country’s economic reforms and global diplomacy. His leadership and contributions to the nation have left an indelible mark, making his loss a moment of profound grief for the entire country.
Singh is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Singh, and three daughters.
A globally renowned economist, Singh began his political journey during the 1991 economic crisis when then-Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao appointed him as finance minister. Known for spearheading transformative economic reforms in the 1990s, he leaves behind a distinguished legacy of political and economic contributions.
The mortal remains of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh will be brought to AICC headquarters tomorrow for people to pay their last respects. His last rites be performed near Rajghat, the Congress said. (ANI)
