New Delhi [India], October 2 (ANI):The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its judgment on Thursday on appeals challenging the Patna High Court’s decision acquitting former MP Surajbhan Singh and eight others in a murder case.
The case pertains to the murder of former Bihar Minister Brij Bihari Prasad in 1998.
A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar, and R Mahadevan will pronounce the verdict.
On August 22, the Supreme Court reserved the order on the appeals filed by the late minister’s wife Rama Devi and the CBI. Rama Devi and the Central Bureau of Investigation challenged the Patna High Court decision in 2014, whereby it acquitted the accused for lack of evidence.
Seven accused, including former MP Surajbhan Singh, former legislators Vijay alias Munna Shukla, and Rajan Tiwari, were acquitted by the Patna High Court. The trial court in 2009 sentenced the eight accused to life imprisonment. (ANI)
