Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 12 (ANI): Heavy rain in Mainpuri led to three separate incidents of wall collapses of houses in the villages of Rajalpur, Shivpuri and Katra, taking the lives of five people on Tuesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Kaptan Singh Jatav of Rajalpur village; Mamta Devi (40), Dilip Kumar (35) and Manoj Yadav residents of Shivpuri and Ramu (35) a resident of Katra village in Bhongaon.
The administration, along with the help of the police, rushed to the areas upon receiving the information, removed the bodies from the debris and sent them to the mortuary.
Nibhya, a member of the victim’s family from Shivpuri, said that the incident shocked her as she had lost her mother and her uncle in the incident.
“We were sleeping when the wall collapse happened. I was with my brother and sister. As soon as we heard the wall collapse, we went to our mother and my uncle to be together. However, by the time, we went to them, the debris had already fallen on her and my uncle.” Nibhya said.
Sunil Singh, a villager residing in Rajalpur, said that he had received information of the incident at 6 a.m., and by the time he arrived at the spot, he saw two bodies buried under the debris.
“The collapse had occurred in the night, however, I received information of it in the morning. When I reached Rajalpur, two people were already under the debris. The wall that had collapsed was weak,” he said.
Additional District Magistrate Ram Ji Mishra said that due to the heavy rains, the incidents had taken the lives of five people.
“The incidents that happened due to the heavy rains in the villages of Rajalpuri, Shivpuri and Katra yesterday night killed five children. The two children who died were aged two and a half months and five months. The administration team had rushed on the spot to remove the bodies from the debris,” he said.
Further, he expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
“I express my condolences to the families of the poor. This is something very unfortunate to occur,” he added.
IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over west Uttar Pradesh, heavy rain at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and west Rajasthan, and heavy rain at isolated places over Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan for today.
A depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal and has now settled over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh is one of the factors for the downpour. The IMD said that the system is under continuous surveillance. (ANI)
