Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], July 9 (ANI): Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Tuesday said that the state government has taken up a campaign against illegal money lenders across the state, under which 134 FIRs have been filed so far against 226 people.
“Under the direction of Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, in a special drive, Gujarat Police has registered cases against 226 for illegal money lending in the last 10 days. Because of illegal money lending, many poor families have lost their family members,” Sanghavi said.
He further said that in money lending issues 134 FIRs have been registered.
“134 FIRs have been registered in money lending issues…so many families had to face a lot of challenges because of illegal money lending,” he added.
The police action has saved many citizens’ lives and helped many recover their life savings that had been trapped, he said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghavi instructed Gujarat Police to ensure that no loan shark escapes strict action and that no innocent person is falsely accused.
Gujarat Police has launched a special drive across all cities and districts of the state from June 21, 2024.
The senior police officials in all districts have begun organizing public hearings and conducting thorough investigations, followed by strict action.
This drive, scheduled to continue until July 31, 2024, focuses on the Money Lenders Act, of 2011. (ANI)
