New Delhi [India], April 2 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Wednesday said that there has been a notable decrease in infiltration in the country, while the “conspiracy to bring in infiltrators has mostly been happening either during the Congress government or in West Bengal.”
MoS Nityanand Rai replying to a question in Rajya Sabha on Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, “I am telling this House and the country that there has been a significant decrease in infiltration and the conspiracy to bring in infiltrators has mostly been happening either during the Congress government or in West Bengal, where the TMC government is in power.”
He also accused the TMC Government in West Bengal of not giving land for construction of fence on India India-Bangladesh border.
“Action is being taken to stop intruders. The deployment of BSF has been increased. We have held 10 meetings with the West Bengal Government to install barbed wire. The Central Government has given money to install the wire. The TMC Government is not giving us land. If we are given the land, we will start construction of barbed wire fencing within a short time. These foreign intruders are now failing, they are getting success only where the BJP not Government is not there,” Rai said.
Parliament has passed the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, after the Rajya Sabha gave its nod today. The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill.
Following his remarks, opposition MPs staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha. Amidst the disruptions and the walkout by opposition members, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 11 a.m. on April 3.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh has condemned Nityanand Rai’s statements regarding infiltrators as unfortunate and urged him to give one example of an infiltrator in a Congress-ruled state.
“It is unfortunate MoS Home said Congress-ruled states are seeing the maximum infiltration. We highly object to it. He should give one example of an infiltrator in a Congress-ruled state who has been deported in the last 11 years. Congress has always taken action against illegal immigrants,” Singh told media.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari slammed Nityanand Rai’s statements regarding infiltrators saying that he was lying and have no evidence to back his claim.
“INDIA alliance has staged a walkout. MoS Home has no knowledge of facts, history, code of conduct, and he was lying. He has no knowledge of the traditions of the house. He was accusing us and had no evidence to back it,” Tiwari told media.
Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary condemned Nityanand Rai’s statements regarding infiltrators, asking him to provide evidence of any illegal immigrants protected by Congress.
Speaking to ANI, Chaudhary said, “Is the MoS Home narrating a TV serial drama? They are blaming us for all their shortcomings. They accuse Congress-ruled states of letting in illegal immigrants, but what have they been doing for the last 11 years? He should give evidence of an illegal immigrant protected by us and also of anyone deported by them? Why should we listen to their lies?”
TMC MP Sushmita Dev also criticized Rai’s statements, asserting that Nityanand Rai has no facts and is just giving a political speech.
“He talks about infiltrators time and again. We asked him to give us the number of illegal immigrants deported to Pakistan or Bangladesh. We also told him that the government has not notified NRC in Assam. He said that Bengal and Congress-ruled states are bringing in illegal immigrants. We asked him about the data of his double-engine governments. He has no facts, and he is just giving a political speech. This is against the rules of the Parliament,” Dev said. (ANI)
